About Me
Lara Silveira is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) based in Toronto, offering in-person and online therapy in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. As an immigrant, she brings lived experience of cultural transition and a nuanced understanding of identity, belonging, and displacement to her clinical work.
Her approach is grounded in Lacanian psychoanalysis, a depth-oriented form of talk therapy that explores how language, unconscious patterns, and early relational experiences shape emotional life.
Rather than focusing solely on symptom reduction, Lara works with clients to better understand recurring dynamics in their relationships, anxiety, self-image, and life choices. Therapy with her emphasizes careful listening, reflection, and creating space for new meanings to emerge.
Lara holds a Master’s degree in Psychoanalysis (Clinic and Research) from the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro. Her academic and clinical training informs a practice that is both theoretically grounded and attentive to each person’s unique history.
Beyond the consulting room, Lara has a strong interest in art and culture, particularly film, literature, and poetry, and how creative expression illuminates subjective experience. She is also engaged with questions in gender studies and is attentive to how social norms, power, and discourse shape personal suffering. Her interest in community mental health reflects a broader commitment to making psychological care more accessible and socially informed.
Her work is guided by ethical practice, cultural sensitivity, and a sustained commitment to helping individuals think more freely about their lives and relationships.
